MGP: February 2020
On Sunday 9th February at Hornsea Methodist Church friends joined Doreen Shuttleworth to celebrate being a Local Preacher for 60 years! The Chapel was quite full, and more chairs had to be brought in. Doreen's family were in attendance, and many Local Preachers from around the Circuit joined the congregation with several taking part in the service with Bible readings and prayers.
Whilst the weather raged outside, our hearts were warmed as we shared Communion and listened to Rev Richard Teal speaking passionately about the role of Local Preachers.
After the service Richard presented Doreen with a certificate which had been signed by Revd Barbara Glasson, the President of Conference, and Revd Keith Himsworth reminded us about Doreen's dedication when he was Superintendent Minister and Doreen helped him with plan-making. Doreen was also the head of LPMA (before it became LWPT) which, as Keith tells us, is the lay person's equivalent of being the President of Conference!
Doreen has trained many preachers over the years, her latest protégé being Irene McGowan, who was accredited only last year.
Of course, all 'proper' celebrations need cake — and what a cake it was!
