Richard Teal

Dear Friends, Martin Luther, whose hammering of 95 theses on to a church door in Wittenberg in 1517 sparked the Reformation, was by reputation a powerful preacher.
He once wrote this:
A good preacher should have these properties and virtues:
First, he (sic) should be able to teach in a right and orderly way.
Second, he should have good wit.
Third, he should be able to speak well.
Fourth, he should have a good voice.
Fifth, a good memory
Sixth, He should know when to stop.
Seventh, he should make sure of his material and be diligent.
Eighth, he should stake body and blood, goods and honour on it.
Ninth, he must suffer himself to be vexed and flayed by everyone.
'Flayed by everyone'? Misunderstood, perhaps. Not, always as effective as we'd like to be. But striving to be better. Always striving to be better. Thank you to those who preach and lead worship in the Circuit week by week. We are so grateful to you and perhaps Martin Luther's words written so many years ago speak to our hearts today. Richard
