Rev Robert Amos
Dear friends, September 1st marks the start of the new Methodist year and on that day at 3pm we welcome Rev Richard Teal, and his wife Sue, as the Superintendent of the Driffield-Hornsea Circuit. Richard comes with a wealth of experience in the many Circuits he has served and especially in pioneering ecumenical mission as Chair of the Cumbria District. He has been elected to be President of the Methodist Conference for the 2020-21. I offer the Circuit's congratulations for the honour that has been given to him to serve the Church throughout the Connexion. Please be assured that the Circuit will be helped during Richard's busy Presidential year and we look forward to the joys and opportunities that this time will bring.
As we begin another year I take this opportunity to pay tribute to our Circuit and Church Stewards, Local Preachers, pastoral visitors, musicians, welcomers, tea-makers, cleaners, sound system and PowerPoint operators, notice sheet providers and ministers. It is a constant reminder of our Methodist roots. Our founder John Wesley was very much a folk theologian who wanted to speak 'plain truth to plain people'. He took seriously the working people of his day. He also trusted them with responsibilities. In building the local Methodist 'societies', he trained many lay people who then maintained the meetings and gave pastoral care and evangelical challenge to all.
We are all called to witness and worship and work together in order that God's kingdom may come, on earth as in heaven. There is much to celebrate about our life together; but best of all, God is with us!
May God's Spirit inspire and challenge you this new year, so that you may be full of hope.
