Happy Yorkshire folk at Aldbrough

It was in spring last year when the good folk at Driffield Methodist Church asked if I would help them with a fund raising event for their rebuild — I said 'yes' and they foolishly gave me a free hand!

So I set about creating a one-woman comedy using observations about Yorkshire. Church leaders and local dignitaries around Driffield were fair game, and I'm delighted to say that those who had their legs pulled didn't hold anything against me!

The show covered topics such as the lime scale in East Yorkshire water — 'Our water is so hard we've got stalactites hanging from the showerhead', to Yorkshire tea, 'Which is lovingly picked from the hills around Harrogate by staff from Betty's CafĂ©'. Oh, and don't let's forget the music, which included some fine Yorkshire songs, such as 'La Bamba' (eee-by-gum).

Then we went on a full tour around the Circuit — Driffield, Nafferton, followed by Skirlaugh, and then my 'swan-song' at Aldbrough in June. The Fund Raising Committees in these Churches have been terrific, nearly as good as the Church Caterers!

All-in-all, our four shows raised over £3000 profit for the various development funds. It's been fun — well, at least I thought it was.
